Summer – The Perfect Time For Floral Prints

Summer is upon us and floral prints are the PERFECT wear for this season. But wait, floral prints for summer? Doesn’t exactly sound groundbreaking, does it? This year florals will prevail but with a twist and we have designers like Marni, Chanel and Miu Miu to thank for that. For the modern woman of today, bold, bright yet feminine floral patterns are going to make it big this year.

Let us help you shake things up a bit because really, you don’t want to be seen wearing last year’s floral prints and pretend they’re ‘in’ this season, do you? Try mixing and matching things up a bit! A denim shrug with a dress or crop tops with a long skirt – these combinations are plenty. Still, here are some basic pointers to keep in mind for this year.

For example, you can experiment with darker floral prints this season. Or rather, the combination of dark colours over pastel prints. This will work wonders to highlight your silhouette. Take a look at Alexander McQueen’s collection and you’ll know what we are talking about. You can push your experimental side by wearing biker boots (instead of chappals or ballerinas) with your dress. Yves Saint Laurent’s collection went in that direction and they did a pretty fine job of it.

The dark and light colour contrast would especially look gorgeous on bloom prints. Or you can just go ahead and wear a sheer blouse with a pair of floral patterned trousers. If you don’t already have them, we’d encourage you to buy at least one pair of capris in floral patterns. You can thank us later. If you’re going for a more romantic/boho look, search for Vera Wang’s long dresses on the runway; they looked absolutely ethereal. Tommy Hilfiger gave his hippie dress collection a very stylish twist, while Dries Van Noten showed off his extremely playful and funky floral prints.

Another fad which will be a hit this year is fringing. It was present all over the spring 2015 runways, and even brands like Ralph Lauren Polo and Mara Hoffman took notice of it, making great use of it.Although traditionally fringes are seen on jackets and boots, this year, designers are going to go all out – dress hems, bags, purses and even coats – all will have fringes! Those who want to buy jackets in leather can go the eco friendly way and opt for rexene/faux leather instead. It’s cruelty free AND is much easier on the pockets, not to mention the fact that the lay man won’t ever be able to tell the difference between the real thing and its faux version. Fringes are going to lend an all out “summer vibe” to your wardrobe.

So really, what are you waiting for? Get going and buy something stylish today!
