Summer with its sweltering heat and soaring temperatures is here.
With it come miniskirts, shorts, flirty summer dresses on the street. But there is another fashion trend fast gaining popularity amongst the masses as well- yes we are talking about the maxi skirts. Sure you think about the boho look and the gypsy skirts, but why go boxy when you can be flowy and ethereal? The Maxi Skirt has developed in to the chic, versatile, extremely lady like cousin of the boho inspired skirts. Easily taken from day to night, this skirt can be layered up or be worn as it is.
Be it a glossy bright rich coloured skirt or a shimmering light weight fabric; be it the skirt which catches the wind beautifully or just skims playfully around your ankles, one can never go wrong with a fluid and almost liquid like maxi skirt.
But like every other fashion trend there are always some small do’s and don’ts to look your best- though the biggest one is ‘There are no Rules!’
Mix and match the prints of the skirt and the top- Wear flower printed skirts with polka dots or stripes. Wear stripes with block colours. Wear block colours with animal prints. Use your imagination and wear what you are the most comfortable in.
Flats– To be the summer queen, pair your maxi dresses with open flat sandals. You could wear the plain tan coloured ones or slightly more embellished for a chic look.
Heels– Block heels and wedge heels are the most ideal heeled footwear to be worn with maxi skirts. Nude colours and neutral tones look the best when wearing the skirt for a slightly more formal evening.
Tops– Being long, long tops don’t suit maxi skirts. Shorts tops, crop tops and tops which just about cover the waist band of the skirt pair really well with it. Lace tops add a bit of a slight casual look to the whole outfit making it an extremely popular choice amongst the ladies for summer.
Accessories– One cannot go wrong with sling bags. Long straps attached to a medium/ small bag is perfect for the whole care-free attitude. Long chains with striking pendants or short elegant, dainty neck pieces look really nice. Opt for studs in the ear with a couple of thin bangles on your wrist and a nice cocktail ring and you are good to go.
Boots and chunky accessories don’t really complement the maxi skirts of today as they take away the delicate characteristics of the outfit and make it look more chunky and heavy.
Perfect for summers and for a feminine effect, this skirt had taken the S/S 2015 runways by storm. You could wear the layered translucent version which shows off little skin for the afternoon brunch or you could wear the floor skimming pencil version for the rooftop dinner, but one thing is for sure that whatever your choice, you definitely cannot go wrong with this trend.
