Scarf It All Up

The 90’s are back and with it the decade brings its cheapest accessory yet. Move over $500 worth bags; we are talking about scarves and bandanas! These pieces of cloth can bring the much needed colour, oomph and uniqueness in your outfit. Often used as coup de grace of fashion, one can never go wrong with a scarf or a bandana.

Hermes, the personification of neck kerchiefs and scarves, came out with bigger squares for 2015 which are perfect for this season.

The Long Kerchief- Tied around the neck, this scarf has long ends which tend to reach your knees and fly in the breeze. Extremely different from the regular scarves, this one gives the fashionable edge to your look. It can be used as a stylish belt too.

The Short Kerchief- The small square which is big enough to just about tie around your neck without leaving any extra ends is the most common one there is. This is perfect for day wear when you don’t want to wear your done-to-death statement neck-piece but yet want something understated and chic.

Day Look – For the day, pair a bright coloured short scarf with a jumpsuit or a flirty dress to add that extra touch to your look.

Evening Look- Be a tad romantic and wear a flattering maxi dress with a scarf with a slight shimmer. Wear it loose by covering one or both shoulders and make it a statement neck piece.

Experiment with old clothes such as saris or dupattas. Utilize the ones which are in your ‘discard’ pile and you will be surprised with how much you can invent and get on this accessory bandwagon. Go all out right from wearing a fringed piece to the traditional silk scarf, from a paisley print version to gingham patterned one. But be careful – don’t let the ends get stuck anywhere.

Think the 50’s with full skirts, a small scarf around the neck and a lady zipping away on her bike. Think the cow girl look complete with a fringed jacket, hat and suede boots. Think an elegant lady who is all pearls and suit with a bright scarf tied around the strap of her tote; and remember it is here to stay.
