Must Have Accessories
No outfit is ever complete without the coup de grace required.
A beautiful cocktail dress will look drab and very blah if not worn with the right accessories and/or the right shoes. Sure the outfit you wear is beautiful beyond words, but what does get its beauty accentuated is the accessory; consider it as the makeup you use to highlight your best features.
So without much further ado, let us see what 2015 has in store for us-
Statement Earrings- Who jumped on the one earring/ one ear cuff bandwagon last year? Well, forget just the one earring, but don’t throw it out for this season is all about drawing attention to both your ears, but with a twist. Nina Ricci showcased mismatched earrings at the S/S 2015 show- whether the length didn’t match or whether it was the colour or whether it was the style of the earrings altogether; whatever the difference, it sure made an impact. You could also where the gigantic statement hoops in your ears or estate earrings which are the small earrings that make a huge impact when you go lunching with your ladies, dahling.
Chokers- Remember the tattoo jewelry we had about 10 years ago, especially the chokers? Well, the chokers are back! If you have been the intelligent one to hold on to at least a couple from your teenage days, then you, my friend, have been super intelligent. Chokers in transparent acrylic, brass, metal, plastic, pearls were seen on the runway in abundance and boy did they leave a lasting impression.
Gladiators- For some reason we always forget to include shoes in our accessories list, but we decided not to make that mistake. Shoes have been in as much focus for 2015 as the clothes. Gladiators have made a comeback this season and they don’t look as if they are leaving anytime soon. Flats and heels were both seen on the runway, but the flat versions were more in focus for summer and we couldn’t agree more. Gladiators have always looked extremely smart, whether they are knee length or just till the ankles.
Obi Belt- Belts have forever been an important part of our wardrobe but have always been the white noise in the background of our closet. This year, belts made an impact in the obi style. They are more of statement pieces in fabric (mostly) tied with a bi elaborate knot in the front or on the side. Worn with dresses in contrasting colours or worn with trousers to the office, obi belts look, if nothing else, cool!
Hippie Jewelry- Yup the 60’s and 70’s are back with their slogans and their fight for rights. Think fringed neck-pieces and bracelets, wooden pendants, wooden statement pieces, beaded jewelry in bright colours. Chanel’s accessories consisted of a stack of bangles and bracelets which said ‘Make Fashion not War’ and ‘Ladies First’. Think colourful stacks of jewelry with the peace sign here and there. Directed towards the boho in you, we don’t see why you cannot wear these babies everywhere.
Accessories are what that can make or break your outfits. To make a statement, you don’t always have to wear everything that is trending or always wear eye catching pieces; minimalist can be the wait to go at times too- whether it is a pair of estate earrings with dainty finger rings or whether it is just one colourful hippie bangle with a delicate choker. Mix and match is the mantra of 2015 and this is the one trend that should be embraced in this season because the cold weather does not give us that chance.
