There are some trends which cease to be just trends but instead turn into classics, such as the LBD or red shoes. The last couple of years have seen a rise in the floral print and geometric patterns. Though every year brings about a certain innovation to them, these prints and patterns remain firmly grounded to their roots. Spring/ summer 2015 saw a different side to the fresh floral and graphic geometric patterns. How to wear them is a totally different ballgame.
Be Edgy- Floral prints can make you look as if you wore those ugly curtains from that vintage store. Avoid looking like home upholstery by being a bit edgy with flowers. Yes, you can be edgy with flowers. It is not always cute and frilly. Wear a floral skirt with a sheer blouse, or a floral top with printed pants. Instead of the small cutesy flowers, opt for the big bold flower print on clothes.
Be Dark- Never though flowers and leather would pair well, right? This year is all about the big tropical flowers as opposed to daisy like ones which were in vogue last year. Opt for olive green or darker shaded floral printed skirts and pair it with a neutral toned blouse, leather jacket and boots. Steer clear of being a flower princess and the sweetness around it.
Fringe- With 2015 being the 70’s all over again, especially in the fashion circuit, it is no surprise that fringe is seen in abundance. Opt for a suede floral printed dress with fringes at the edge or a pair of suede floral printed pants. Keep the accessories to a minimum for a bigger impact.
Minimum is Maximum- Are you not comfortable wearing flowers all over? Then wear a non printed outfit and team it up with floral printed closed shoes or floral printed gladiators/ coil sandals. Suede bags with big and bold flower embellishments are all the rage right as are floral headbands and jewelery. Be a part of this trend through minimal accessorizing and the see the big impact it makes.
Be Bold- This year is all about geometry and graphic prints. Though traditionally these prints come in the darker section of colours in clothes, this year has seen a rise in the brighter versions. Rich tones like emerald and ruby are paired with whites, lace, sheer, fringes and even floral. You can wear your suit to the office with a graphic printed blazer or a 70’s inspired skirt with a fitting top in neutral colour and heels.
Ditch the LBD- Ditch the LBD this season and opt for its extremely distant cousin. Bright coloured, graphic and geometric printed short dresses are in style and this ensemble definitely gives a feeling of happiness during those perfect sunny days. Wear a ‘ladylike dress’ for a day out in the sun; this dress accentuates the waist and is a perfect answer to the boxy dresses we saw last year. Go ahead and wear a monochrome geometric pattern with a pop of colour in between. Else, pair your printed numbers with gladiators and tan coloured bags for a minimal but a bold look.
So do away with the pretty frilly skirts and dresses and the bold and darker geometric patterned clothes. Instead focus on statement prints, large prints, minimal prints and of course, brighter colours. Go wild and pair floral skirts with leather and suede, or geometric print dresses with sheer. You definitely cannot go wrong with whatever you choose to wear.
