Here are some designers and organic clothing brands who draw attention to fair practices, social responsibility and sustainability through their amazing recycled fashion.
1. Shraddha Nigam and Mayank Anand
First on our list are the actors-turned-designers Shraddha Nigam and Mayank Anand who started their fashion journey in 2010. They only use Indian fabrics and promote the country’s artisans and craftsmen by providing them a platform to showcase their talent and creativity. Their organic clothing brand is becoming more popular day-by-day.
2. Anupamaa Dayal
Up next is Anupamaa Dayal. Her fashion label “Anupamaa” follows the philosophy of being wholly organic. Her eco-friendly clothing is created by the use of vegetable dyes and needle-craft techniques. She also uses hand carved wooden blocks that are prepared by craftsmen for natural processes of coloring and dying.
3. Karishma Shahani
The motto of her eco-friendly fashion label KaSha is to “co-exist without contradiction”. Her label focuses on modernity with age-old techniques, which results in outfits that are easy-to-wear and trendy. Her label has a zero-waste policy, and her outfits are created from plastics, fabric waste and discarded clothing.
4. Paromita Banerjee
Paromita’s work is rooted in redefining indigenous handlooms to make them relevant in the global context. Her sustainable clothing brand has taken inspiration from the Japanese folk practice of fashioning clothing from rags and cloth scraps, to create a distinct blend of textiles and cultures.
5. Aneeth Arora
Aneeth Arora has made an impeccable mark in the fashion world with her out-of-the-box designs and design techniques, including using paper as a textile. Her eco fashion brand Pero uses techniques that are yet to hit in the country, but the anti-fit outfits have earned her respect and laurels in oversea fashion.
