6 Tricks To Change Your Look By Using The Right Fabric

The summer is the perfect time to not only experiment with new looks, but new fabrics as well. Read on to find out how you can update your look by a simple switch of fabrics. Yes, you read right!

Say no to Cling: With the sun in full swing in most parts of the country, tops that use heavy fabric and cause you to perspire should be pushed to the back of the closet. Summer tops should be of fabrics that are breezy and best of all, don’t cling to your body. Such fabrics not only add comfort to your look but also style. A tunic length white shirt in a flowing material (try cotton or Liva) paired with black leggings and a statement bag is the perfect look for the summer as compared to a plain white shirt.

Sari Story: Saris are a classic outfit that will never go out of style. But you can update the look by skipping typical materials and choosing ones that are finer, almost sheer. This type of material may not seem like much at first, but when it is draped, it will hold you in and actually make you appear slimmer than you are. The thin fabric will also offer an ethereal look, moving with you as you walk.

Go delicate: If you’re heavy, you may think that a “stronger” fabric is what you need to look slimmer or to balance your look. But that’s not accurate. If you are on the heavier side, don’t shy away from delicate fabrics because they can actually make you look slimmer by taking off inches that a heavier material would add to your frame.

Pant theory: Women need to let go of full length trousers this summer in fabrics such as wool and polyester. Most Indian women are blessed with enviable curves and bulky materials only add weight to your behind. Choose pants in cotton blend materials and you’ll instantly spot the difference it makes to your posterior.

Toning tricks: For years, style magazines have said that if you are on the heavier side, you should not layer your clothes as the added layers can add bulk and become cumbersome. But, larger women can actually rock layered clothes simply by changing the material of the items. Pair a coloured camisole under a sheer shirt that isn’t too fitting, except on the shoulders. You can add a light jacket on top for added appeal. Alternatively, you can also throw on a self-coloured sheer shirt over a party dress to tone it down for work or daily wear.

Two in one look: Formal dresses get little wear except on formal occasions. Instead of piling on formal outfits, pick up dresses in a flowing sheath design. Such outfits can be jazzed up for a party with dangling earrings, heels and a statement chain or can be toned down with sandals and a printed scarf for meetings. Two birds with one stone!
