Return Of Embroidery And Patchwork
Embroidery is a term long forgotten in the pages of a fashion thesaurus. It has or rather had become archaic in its use and terminology. Now days it has all about prints and patterns and 3D printing and colour blocking and fabric contrasting. But since all the things 60’s and 70’s are coming back, how could embroidery and patchwork is left behind, hmm?
It is not all crochet and patchworks quilt; like every other classic trend making a comeback this year, this too has undergone a change and a reinvention to make it look more modern.
Denims- Denims are back with a bang, and flared jeans even more so. Do you remember the embroidered jeans trend way back in the 90’s? Well we are extremely happy to say that the trend is back and looks like it is here to stay for quite a while. Not just understated floral, jeans are taking a new look with rhinestones, crochet and patch work patterns.
Power Suits- A light grey flared trouser with tan belt and tan pumps, paired with a neutral coloured camisole and an embroidered well fitting blazer- power suits themselves have taken a turn at the fashion crossing and we are not complaining. Long waist coats with delicate floral embroidery were flaunted on the ramp along with a beautifully embroidered crochet trouser suit.
The Indian Circuit- We are no strangers to embroidery or appliqués. Glittery work on clothes or floral appliqués on fabrics are second nature to us and honestly, the brighter the effect, the better. This year showcased the Indian shows filled with floral embroidery, mirror work and zardozi embellishments.
Accessories- Like we have been saying accessories have taken the front seat in the fashion trends for this year. No accessory has been left behind to be included in a current trend’s bandwagon. It works for people who hate overdoing on a trend but still want to wear it and showcase it via accessorizing. Fedora hats with patch work elements; suede patchwork boots; floral embroidered clutches; shoes with flower appliqués; patchwork backpacks- these are some of the accessories that took the runways by storm.
Every embroidered ensemble was one of a kind whether it was because of small glittery beads scattered here and there or because of the delicate work. Sure this embroidery is not about the hand stitched peace signs in various colours and is not about being rebellious. It is more about being comfortable with you are and what you are comfortable in. Whether it is a patchwork of different fabrics or embroidery of delicate floral on your ensemble, it is in trend and you must wear it as long as you are comfortable in it.
