The Process Of A Designer’s Fashion Diary Trend

With the ongoing fashion weeks at Milan, London, Paris and New York, new fashion trends are being set for 2017. The trendy clothes we see on the runway are a result of months of hard work. Developing designs for a stunning new collection involves a series of elaborate steps to be followed. Showcasing a collection is a huge achievement for designers, whether established or debutant. The development of a range can take around six to eight months. Here is what happens when you bring fashion trends to life:

Fashion Trend Forecast

 1-min

A designer studies the upcoming fashion trends, patterns, colors, silhouettes and fabrics for the season. This is done through extensive research and analysis of trend forecast reports and fashion shows happening in the fashion capitals, where renowned designers showcase their collections.

Conceptualization

 2-min

After an adequate amount of fashion trend research, a designer selects a theme or message that he wants to weave through his designs. These are translated to inspiration boards and mood boards from which the final theme for the collection is drawn.

Fabric And Trim Selection

 3-min

The next step to fashion clothes for the range is the selection of the right fabric to render the drape required for the silhouette. Trims and embellishments in the form of hand work or computerized embroidery are also selected to complement the body of the fabric.

The Color Story

 4-min

Generating a color story is an important part of creating a fashion clothes range. Some designers select images or a series of images, to display their color story. Some use fashion trend forecasts which provide a variety of swatches, silhouettes and textile forecasts.

Range Planning

 5-min

While the fabric and trim selection is being done, the designing of the trendy clothes starts. Sketches are drawn on paper or a computer and the garment imitation is constructed in muslin. This allows the designer to visualize the look of the garment and modify it till the desired output is achieved.

Pattern And Grading

6-min

This is the last step in the development process. Garment patterns are the most important ingredient for fit and styling of the fashion clothes. The fabric is sent for dyeing and embellishments and then cut according to the pattern and stitched with utmost care for the finished look.

Fittings

7-min

Before the big show, the fittings take place. The models try on the trendy clothes and a fashion show practice takes place to ensure a smooth run and to avoid any malfunctions. The final alterations are done after this rehearsal. The make-up, music, lighting and theme for the show is decided according to the collection.

The Final Show

 8-min

The mood is set, the stage is set and so are the audience. On this final day, six months’ worth of hard work is showcased in front of the eagerly waiting audience. They include magazine editors and head designers of fashion labels, who note down the fashion trend forecast for their collection.

These custom-made fashion clothes are publicized in fashion magazines and forecasting sites. Some are worn by fashion trendsetters to events and some are put on racks in showrooms.
