2015’s Fashion Weeks At A Glance
Nothing like a good dose of fashion weeks to get a sneak peek into trends that will shape the world in the coming months. London, New York, Paris and even India already wrapped up the first installment of their fashion offerings for the season, so it’s raining trends already. Here’s a rundown of the best runway offerings in a capsule.
New York Spring Summer 2015: One of the key fashion weeks on the international circuit, New York dished out trends to reckon with. Enthusiastic design houses didn’t cut back and went all out to put up the best of their creativity on display. Proenza Schouler showed its crazy side with asymmetrical, bright bandage dresses while Marchesa went down the cute road as they accentuated sheer gowns with oversized poppies. Keyhole dresses from Calvin Klein and fur-trimmed cashmere from Ralph Lauren were other highlights of the Big Apple’s take on fashion.
Lakme Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015, India: LFW made the best of its new venue, a five star property, and hosting shows at the main stage area, the pool side and even the lobby for heavy duty designers. Swimwear designer duo Shivan and Narresh rocked the poolside with models in bikinis and strategically cut out swimsuits, sending the temperature soaring. Sabyasachi Mukerjee succumbed to the lure of Hindi cinema — his line acting as an ode to sexy sirens of the 80s and 90s. The thinking fashionistas favourite designer Anamika Khanna too grabbed eyeballs, both with her runway collection (intricately cut crop tops, dhoti pants, etc) and an impressive front row — with business tycoon Mukesh Ambani’s wife Nita and daughter Isha elegantly poised on their reserved seats. All in all, a good wrap.
London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015: Another week that hailed extreme contrasts, the shows at London reflected the mood of its people when Spring/ Summer trumps its gloomy winters. Mary Katrantzou’s line, inspired by geology, had outfits constructed such that the glittering panels resembled tectonic plates and woven lace kind of reminded you of foliage. Roksanda’s candy coloured collection was the perfect tribute to the cheery, eagerly looked forward to London summers. Ankle grazing dresses in blazing red and bubblegum pink, made even more endearing with the statement ruffles looked super fun to roam around in. Paul Smith’s fringed tunics, Christopher Kane’s knitted jackets, Joseph’s sheer dresses, all spelt pure magic on the runway.
Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015: Widely regarded as the fashion head quarters of the world, the runway at Paris Fashion Week celebrated individuality to the core this time around. Haute couture bosses put up distinct lines, all intensely varied from the other. Houndstooth checks and faux crocodile prints by Miu Miu, mercilessly ripped up organza dresses by McQueen and gold and silver silhouettes by LV, kept the audience at the edge of their seats. Not to mention the grand sets erected for some shows. YSL went all out with a rock concert set while Chanel transformed the glass-domed Grand Palais to look like a Belle Epoque brasserie. LV chose a futuristic dome and Givenchy opted for a vintage arcade games backdrop for their statement gowns and pantsuits. Clearly, they don’t call Paris the mecca of fashion for nothing!
We take it that you’re making space in your wardrobe to accommodate these trends already?
